Hey everyone,
We got into LA with no issues and spent the evening at the hotel with several evacuees from Mandeville Canyon who have no idea if they'll have homes after this week. Their positive attitudes were very inspiring.
Todd had his MRI and just finished the last of his 3 appointments and was unblinded from the trial.
This trial simply measured the impact of getting Keytruda before surgery, and Todd was in the placebo group. The good news is that the placebo group has done as well as the test group as long as they continue with Keytruda every 6 weeks. Remember, everyone got DCVAX.
The other good news is that we can move some of our treatments to UPenn. Todd will remain a patient of both hospitals and will still need to return to UCLA on occasion, just not every 6 weeks.
As for the MRI, there is a slight change and they're not sure if it's tumor cells or post surgical effect. That will be the baseline and they will monitor every 6 weeks. We should see improvement as he gets the keytruda and it activates the DCVAX.
Now, we'll go to UPenn every 6 weeks for Keytruda, Labs, MRI, and a visit with his team. We'll continue with UCLA on both Zoom and in-person visits.
His team reiterated that the best way to be successful with this type of immunotherapy and the aggressive nature of his tumor is to eat very healthy, manage stress, get plenty of sleep, be active and avoid alcohol.
His vision deficits are a result of the surgical removal of the tumor, so they are an unrelated issue that we will work hard to improve.
Thank you all for your support during this incredible adventure.
